The Musical Fruit

THE MUSICAL FRUIT
“…They also brought wheat and barley, flour and roasted grain, beans and lentils,” 2 Samuel 17:28b

“Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself.” Ezekiel 4:9

I love it that this delectable sustenance (beans) is specifically mentioned in God’s Word. If God thought beans were good enough to create and good enough to mention in the Bible, I am convinced this needs to be something in my food repertoire. So….look out and stand clear, here comes Heather the big bean consumer! : )

Beans are a great food. Like today, for instance, I put jalapeno-pinto-beans and shredded cheese over baked tortilla chips. Wah-lah! Healthy nachos! Last week, I made a garden salad and added garbanzo beans and Gorgonzola cheese. Wah-lah! Yummy salad with added fiber and protein. Come to think of it, I don’t think there’s a bean I don’t like. Here’s my inexhaustible list of the beans I love: garbanzo, black, red, kidney, baked, pinto, black eyed peas, white, lentil, and navy beans.  Beans are literally the “magical fruit,” not because they make you– well, you know– but because they offer a multitude of macro-nutrients that support a healthy body and even help you to lose weight. Available in a wide variety of colors, sizes, tastes, and textures, beans are easy to add to salads, casseroles, soups, and more to help keep you lean (link, here).” So what is your favorite bean? And more importantly, are you getting them in your diet?

Only Heather could get away with writing a blog about the "musical fruit" – LOL!

Legumes how I love them, how I love them! Now, I am not 100% against animal proteins but limit them to maybe 2-3 times per month.

My father used to recite the "beans, beans the musical fruit" lyric a lot!!!

    Thanks for the good info!

We make a lot of beans around here! Besides being good for you, they are also very easy on the budget. :)

Beans! What a timely subject. They are very cheap, easy to fix for those of us who don't even pretend to be cooks and full of great stuff for our bodies.

    Great blog Heather.
