Acts of Love

Take active steps to loving others and yourself.

When was the last time you went out of your way to show love to someone you care deeply about? Was it yesterday, last week, last month – or has it been a super long time? Whenever it happened (or did not happen), no guilt or pressure here. But guess what? It’s time to get active again! In other words, it’s time to show some love to others around you, including yourself.

Everybody needs love. Think of someone in your life who can use a little extra love from you, like your mother, father, sibling, significant other, child, best friend, co-worker or church member. Whoever that individual may be, get ready to put your thinking cap on to consider ways to show acts of love.

Here are a few helpful suggestions on how to show acts of love to others.

  • Buy a dozen of roses and chocolates for your mom, sister, best friend, boss (if she’s a woman) or pastor’s wife and have them delivered.
  • Buy a sentimental card for someone you love and include a gift card to their favorite restaurant. (If you don’t know, purchase a Visa gift card.)
  • Schedule a facial or pedicure for your loved one or purchase a gift certificate of their favorite spa or nail salon.
  • Plan a mini weekend getaway for your spouse with all the trimmings – a dinner cruise, sightseeing, a museum or a sports game. Basically do something he would enjoy. Consider purchasing “The Love Dare” by Alex and Stephen Kendrick.
  • Take your friend out for a day. Treat her like a queen! Simply lavish her with love in ways that you know she would like.
  • On a shopping trip with a friend, purchase one of her shopping items when she gets to the register. Or purchase someone’s meal you don’t know.
  • Get up early and make a special breakfast for those in your home. Treat them to something special like pancakes with fruit toppings, pecans, syrup, whip cream and ice cream.
  • Leave love notes all over the house for those you love
  • Write a short love letter or sentence on a mirror in lipstick for your hubby or kids.
  • Get the book “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman for your marriage or for your kids.

These are just a few ways to show acts of love. Yet, don’t forget about loving you, too! Jesus tells us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. That verse actually means to go out of your way to do for someone else that you would want them to do for you. So how do you actually love yourself?

Easy. Do what you love to do or even what you would like someone to do for you! For instance, treat yourself to a delicious treat or restaurant you’ve been wanting to try. Buy yourself a gift card (or a few) and either store it away for a later date or use it now for a shopping day to your favorite stores. Schedule a spa day alone. Love yourself by relaxing, taking a long nap or going on personal weekend retreat. It’s totally OK and very healthy. You’ll love it!

Whatever you do, be intentional. Love takes action. The Bible tells us in 1 John 3:18, “My children, our love should not be just words or talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.” (GNT) So go for it! Sow acts of love in others around you. Someone needs it, including you.

Thanks for the okay to love myself by taking a long nap. As busy womenpreneurs, that is a must. We should do this without it being because we have taken ill. Thanks for such GREAT suggestions.
