Hi, My Name’s Heather and I’m Taking…

What?! No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. I’ve been on anti-depressants for about six months. The reason I’m sharing is ’cause often, there’s an unfortunate stereotype that accompanies anti-depressants. And, what breaks my heart is if someone could be better on one, but won’t for fear of being stereotyped. Clinical, physiological evidence is what confirms a person’s need for an anti-depressant. In the same way that clinical, physiological evidence confirms a person’s need for insulin for diabetes or Lipitor for high cholesterol. I can’t imagine telling my doctor that I don’t want meds that will keep me out of the “prison” of being hospitalized for a treatable disease no more than I can’t imagine telling my psychologist that I don’t want the meds that can get me out of a mental “prison” of sleepless nights, anxious days & a downcast heart. The best thing we can do if we are battling any kind of mental affliction, is go before the throne. Let God be our guide, our doctor, our healer and if God leads us in a direction of taking medication, to trust that He knows what’s up and we are in the BEST of hands…His.

I love this post, Heather. When something is not right in my body the first thing I do is pray. Then second thing I do is call for prayer and the anointing of oil at worship. By then Holy Spirit has instructed me what to do. Sometimes it's "go to a doctor" and sometimes "it is TRUST ME and your faith will heal you." I appreciate your honesty and I am glad you are getting the help to be all that you are to be in Christ!
