~9 Tips for Transitioning into Fall
Posted by Emily Moore on October 8th, 2010 in Blog | 6 Comments
As the cold front is expected to rear its ugly head in the next couple of months, heed these 9 tips to keep looking your brightest through this seasonal transition:
1. As wind picks up and the air becomes drier, combat chapped skin by investing in a flavored or color–tinted lip balm. Apply frequently to prevent chapped lips, and to keep your face looking fresh.
2. Prevent nail snags by filing down your nails and rubbing lotion into them occasionally. Nails become more brittle with the cold weather, and keeping them moisturized will prevent painful hang nails.
3. Fall brings on a new season of allergies, and to help fight off hot or itchy eye symptoms, invest in a batch of locally made honey from the farmers market and have a spoonful every morning.
4. Break out the scarves! Help fend off fall colds by adorning yourself with a light scarf and jacket when going out and about. Most public buildings are still in summer-mode and will have the AC on blast, but adding a light layer will help keep you warm.
5. When exchanging summer shorts for jeans, make sure to maintain leg care by exfoliating with a light scrub before you shave and applying lotion once daily.
6. Pull out that water bottle and work it! You should be making sure to stay on top of dehydration this season, do so by carrying around one of these fashionable water bottles. (For a flavor kick, add a single bag of mint or berry tea to swish around in the bottle for a hint of flavor).
7. Cut back on using the blow drier and flat iron: just like your nails, your hair is becoming weaker, and the heat will further damage your hair. Instead, use a heavy conditioner as a treat for your scalp, and make sure to give your hair time to air dry before heading out into colder temperatures.
8. Increase your flax-seed oil intake (by supplement or mixing into your baked dishes) to give your body a healthy dose of rich vital fatty acids.
9. Make sure to continue to use sun screen, even though the temperature is dropping. Harmful sun rays can still burn you, even on an overcast day.
By keeping up with these maintenance basics, you will be well on your way to a fabulous Fall!

I’m seriously going to give the honey thing a go! Great tips, Emily!
Emily,
Thanks for these practical tips on how look great as we head towards colder weather.
Blessings!
Even though alot of peeps don’t think it gets coolio down here in Miami, to me, it does! Its all relative. But the same stay-moist, stay-hydrated rules apply. Love this list!! Thanks, girl!!
I love this post! I love the great blend of tips for personal care using things in our bathroom cabinet (i.e. use of things like lotion on the nails) and healthy tips using supplement-type things from the kitchen (i.e. flax oil). And I can’t WAIT to toss the tea in my water for flavor. What a great idea. I usually throw a dash of liquid chlorophyll, which is a great blood cleanser and comes in a spearmint flavor, and voila…I have homemade Metro Mint.
And a great reminder to keep up drinking water, even though the heat is gone. This is something I forget.
Thanks for this!
Great reminders, Emily…it never hurts to hear them again!!!
This are great tips Emily! Although I chuckled at the chapped lips thing…my mom carries around Carmex to take care of those dry lips just in case we don’t (LOL)! Just love this post!
