Heather’s Hints for Hot Bods & Healthy Minds
~Do You Pig Out During The Holidays?
Posted by Heather Palacios on November 26th, 2010 in Blog | 2 Comments

Tis the season for calories, fat, sugar, grease, and just about anything that falls into the last triangle of the food-pyramid.
What to do, what to do?
Here’s what not to do. I don’t recommend justifying in our minds that “tis the season to pig out,” and that we’ll “get back in ship-shape” when January 1 rolls around. Whoever thought of that, is whack-a-doodle. I honestly don’t ever take time off from healthy eating. Not on summer vacation, not on my birthday, not during the Thanksgiving-Christmas seasons.
I have come to know myself all-to-well. I’ll justify eating all the crap-food and when January 1 strolls around, I don’t get around to losing all the pounds I gained. I just don’t work that way. So, since that hasn’t worked for me, I’ve had to come up with an alternative plan. Instead, I seek balance. If I’m going to a particular Christmas par-Tay one evening, then I will work out extra hard that morning. Before I go to the party, I’ll eat something healthy at home, filling my belly with, perhaps, a salad, a bowl of whole-grain oatmeal, a mug of hot-tea, etc. If the kids bring home a bajillion pieces of Christmas candy from a school party, we will enjoy a few pieces that night, and then literally toss out the rest or donate it to a charity or shelter.
Throughout the season, I just strive for balance. Not indulging, not justifying.
Just balance.
This season CAN be enjoyable, but it can also be void of guilt & regret once it passes. All we have to do is pray for balance. Our God-our wonderful, creative, loving Father-has all the power we need to enjoy the holidays, be a light to the world as we are, and achieve balance all along the way. We simply need to ask Him.
Leave a comment, letting me know how I can pray for you as we head into the holidays.
I’d be honored to pen your name in my prayer journal.
