~The Art of Eyeshadow

As a little girl, I was captivated by the makeup that resided on my mother’s vanity counter. My eyes would dance over the beautiful burst of colors that I had never seen in my own crayon box. Rows of warm winter hues would lead into vibrant summer colors that aided in beautification. With my mother’s supervision, I would carefully dip the brush into the magical colors hoping to create a piece of art on my mocha skin. Now that I am much older, I have an appreciation for the world of cosmetics, and the ability products have to enhance a woman’s natural features.

Our friends at Sephora have sent over the Beauty In A Box Summer Goddess Palette! This fab product contains detailed instructions for a gorgeous glowing complexion paired with captivating, turquoise eyes. The palette is extremely easy to use and includes everything you need to channel your inner makeup artist. Although the palette is called the “Summer Goddess” it is without a doubt the look for fall. An array of jewel toned shadows ranging from swimming pool blue to cobalt has been seen on the fall runways of Derek Lam, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Jason Wu. Sephora has also created the Harajuku Lovers: Makeup Girls Bag Collection, which is a line of playful bags that are convenient yet large enough for your beauty essentials. So, before you tuck away the Summer Goddess in your new Harajuku Lovers makeup bag be sure to follow the rules that will guarantee your batting beauties will stand out.

The Fashionista rules for eyeshadow:
Rule 1: Preparation Start with a clean palette to prevent oils from seeping through the makeup. Then prep your eyes with concealer (optional) to cover dark under eye circles, apply three dots of concealer under each eye and pat the concealer until it disappears. Although there are many different methods to apply eyeshadow, take your time and follow the provided detailed instructions.

Rule 2: Blending The kit contains a blending brush that allows the colors to evenly blend into each other. Think of a sunset, under your brows are the light sky that blends into the horizon and then the setting sun (eyelid). All colors should blend evenly without interruption.

Rule 3: Lighting Always apply makeup in good lighting. Daytime- apply makeup close to a window to obtain natural sunlight. Evening- After you’ve completed your makeup, snap a quick picture of your face with the flash on. The flash will expose any imperfections that the naked eye would overlook.

Rule 4: The Focal point Keep the rest of your makeup light. Nude glossy lips and sheer blush is best suited for bold eye color. You do not want these colors clashing or producing the “Cirque du soleil” effect.

Rule 5: Matching The days of the disco are long gone. Avoid matching your eyeshadow to your clothing. Allow your jewel tone shadow to have center stage without competing with other factors.

They say the eyes are the window to the soul, so allow your beautifully accentuated eyes to radiate the goodness of God from within.

Go forth and be gorgeous! ♥ Your Fashionista
