As a teenager I had the opportunity to work in a European fragrance boutique, which housed elite scents from all around the world. Every evening before closing I walked through the illuminated store to dust the exotically shaped bottles. As I removed the caps, I would inhale the soft sweet scents while imagining that I was an aristocrat at a gala or in a foreign country. Each bottle had the ability to encapsulate an essence of luxury or leisure that makes women feel feminine and beautiful. A fragrance also has the power to trigger your memory and remind you of a special time in your life.

A friend to Hope magazine has sent over two delicious smelling fragrances that are sure to immediately entice your senses.

“Dare Me”, the newest scent from Baby Phat, is the perfect mist for the chic woman in the office or the young fashionista in the city. It is a light scent that is reminiscent of expensive pastries and delicious candy. If glamorous had a smell…this would be it!

Another tantalizing scent is “Pure Orchid” by Halle Berry, which is best suited for candlelit dinners with your special someone.
A bold evening floral scent, sure to announce your arrival to the room.

Before you indulge in these luscious fragrances, there are a few rules to apply.

The Fashionista Rules for Fragrance:
Rule 1: Purchase When you have chosen a scent that appeals best to your senses, spray it on your inner wrist. Do not rub your wrists together, as it will reduce the perfume. After application, wait ten minutes for the scent to settle in order to determine the genuine aroma of the product.

Rule 2: Application The best time to apply your fragrance is immediately after a bath, when your pores are most receptive. It’s always a good idea to apply before dressing since perfumes have the ability to cause discoloration on clothing. Apply to your pulse points-your inner wrists, temples, inside of your elbows and behind your knees. Your pulse points are the areas on your body that are the warmest, bringing longevity to your fragrance.

Rule 3: Time Be sure to wear the proper fragrance for the occasion. Light and citrus scents are better suited for the day, whereas bold floral scents are formal and more appropriate for the evenings. Also, as we evolve as women, so should our fragrance. Upgrade from the ten year relationship you’ve had with a perfume and try some of the new scents on the market.

Rule 4: Etiquette It is extremely important that your fragrance is not too strong or offensive. Abstain from bathing in a scent that could provoke headaches or an allergic reaction for someone in close proximity. You never want your scent to overwhelm your presence but rather to add to your charisma. (Tip: Avoid the application of any perfume on an interview)

Rule 5: Storage Although we like to display our beautiful perfume bottles like figurines on our bureau, they should actually be stored in cool dark places. If your bottle is tucked away it will have the ability to hold the authentic scent longer.

Perfumes, oils, and incense have been utilized by queens since Biblical times and were considered both precious and expensive. Being a woman of God, without a doubt, makes you royalty! So select a scent that defines the essence of who you are.

Go forth and be gorgeous! ♥ Your Fashionista

  5. Chandia, I totally enjoyed this. Thank you. Wonderful tips, and I learned several things. Such a thoughtful suggestion, too, to think of the allergies of others. So true.

I just found a scent I really liked, actually at a Central Market in Dallas, which is sort of a glamorous health food store, or a high-end, gourmet grocery store. The scent is by Thymes and is called Naia. I’m a natural kind of person, so the clean, fresh appeals to me.
